WILLMAR -- The National Weather Service in Chanhassen has issued a flood watch for portions of central and southern Minnesota late tonight into Thursday afternoon. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop across the Dakotas later today and eventually move into western Minnesota tonight.
An unseasonably moist air mass will be feeding into these storms, which will enhance rainfall amounts. The weather service is predicting from 1½ to 2½ inches of rain could fall across the watch area, with locally higher amounts possible.
The 15-county watch area includes the counties of Kandiyohi, McLeod, Meeker and Renville.
