MINNEAPOLIS -- The Willmar Cardinals advanced two relays to today's championship heat and Alissa Tinklenberg lowered two of her school records while swimming her way into the championship heat in both the 200 and 500 freestyle races.
The three-day Class A state meet concludes this afternoon at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.
Tinklenberg, a freshman at her third state meet, is tied for second in the 200 freestyle after posting a 1:57.33 in Tuesday's preliminary heat. That cut 1.20 off her school record time she swam in last year's state final when she took third.
She sits fifth in the 500 freestyle after lowering her school standard from 5:22.92 swam in the Gophers' pool a year ago to 5:18.11.
The 200 freestyle relay, shaving two full seconds off its seed time, is in fourth place; on the relay are Sarah Hund, Sarah Frank Aleasha Blokzyl and Tinklenberg.

Willmar's 400 relay of Hund, Mary Morris, Blokzyl and Tinklenberg is sixth at 3:44.68, which is .33 above their school record time logged at section.
Casey Schulte of Montevideo/Yellow Medicine East is seventh in the breaststroke. Her preliminary time of 1:10.54 is .34 below her seed.
The Thunder Hawks 200 medley relay team will swim in the consolation heat today. Hund will swim in the 50 free consolation for Willmar.
