The West Central Tribune has been changing in recent years as many newspapers have in this digital age - publishing content on wctrib.com, engaging readers on Facebook and Twitter and publishing content in video form. The newspaper will introduce a new design Monday in our print edition.
This redesign has been a long process. Our goal with every decision was to improve our readers’ experience. This is the first step in a continuing effort to improve our newspaper.
We started by seeking out Ed Henninger, an experienced newspaper design consultant. He visited Willmar in February to help redesign the newspaper from the text and headline fonts to column logos and everything in between.
“You want a newspaper that’s comfortable, friendly, (and) familiar,” Henninger said. Newspaper “Design offers you all of that - and more. With the right design, your newspaper delivers information, insight and impact.”
Henninger worked with design editor Carol Seavey, features editor Sharon Bomstad, publisher Steve Ammermann and me for a week in reviewing our newspaper, helping us make decisions and creating a new design.
This new design includes new looks for our newspaper’s flag, text format, headline formats, page headers, column logos and more.
We have not made any content changes with the exception of one new addition. We added a new cartoon panel, Non Sequitur, to our comic page. In this cartoon panel, cartoonist Willey Miller takes a wry look at the absurdities of our modern life.
We want to hear your feedback on our new design when it debuts next week. Please share your feedback via email:
