NEW LONDON -- Thursday night's weather cancellations assured that the host team of the WildCard Invitational will be riding a six-game winning streak.

The New London-Spicer girls basketball team was schedule to play at Sauk Centre last night in pursuit of its seventh win in a row. With the postponement they'll take a 6-2 record up against Watertown-Mayer at 7:45 p.m. next Friday in New London.

Willmar plays Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg in the curtain raiser at 6 p.m.

The tournament will feature the Tribune area's two leading scorers. The Wildcats' Renae Henjum, a six-foot junior center, has averaged 19.9 in the first eight games. This is the Fighting Saints' first appearance at the WildCard. They are led by 5-10 senior forward Esther Peterson, a first-team All-Area choice as a junior, who is averaging 18.6 ppg.

Willmar's top scorer is senior post Lisa Nielsen (13.6 ppg).
