Track and Field: Spaeth, Wubben win three events each in 3A meet

REDWOOD FALLS -- Nick Spaeth of Montevideo and Briana Wubben of Central Minnesota Christian qualified to participate in the Class A State Track and Field Champions by winning three events each Thursday at the Section 3A meet.

REDWOOD FALLS -- Nick Spaeth of Montevideo and Briana Wubben of Central Minnesota Christian qualified to participate in the Class A State Track and Field Champions by winning three events each Thursday at the Section 3A meet.

The state meet is June 6-7 at Hamline University in St. Paul.

Spaeth won the 110 hurdles (15.53), 300 hurdles (40.39) and the high jump (5-11), while Wubben was first in the 100 dash (13.32), high jump (5-0) and long jump (17-2½).

Kendra Mooberry of Benson/KMS also qualified for three events by placing second in the 200, third in the 300 hurdles (by qualifying standard) and leading off the winning 4x800 meter relay.

Joe Plante of MACCRAY (shot put of 51-1¼ and discus of section record 173-0) and Nate Thooft of Redwood Valley (3,200-meter run in 10:27.13 and 4x800 meter relay team in 8:23.10) both won two events. Ryan Swenson of Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd placed second in the 800 and 1,600 runs to qualify in two events.

Also winning were Brett Holwerda of BOLD/Buffalo Lake-Hector in the 400 dash (51.56), the MACCRAY boys 4x100 relay team (44.69), the Redwood Valley boys 4x800 relay team (8:23.10), Josh Aakre of LQPV/DB in triple jump (42-1½), Melissa Varpness of Montevideo in the 800 run (2:19.44), Naomi U'ren of Redwood Valley in triple jump (36-1½) and the Renville County West girls 4x100 relay team (53.04).

Kruiz Lindblad of LQPV/DB (high jump), Reid Neubauer of BOLD/BLH (triple jump), Kyle Pietig of BOLD/BLH (discus) and Gabi Swoboda of Redwood Valley (1,600) also qualified by placing second in their respective events.
