Track and Field: Willmar's Erickson, Hassan win CLC titles; Cardinal boys, girls both fifth

ST. CLOUD -- Willmar teams took fifth in both the boys and girls at the Central Lakes Conference Track and Field Championships at Apollo High School on Thursday.

The Brainerd boys and the St. Cloud Tech girls -- by a margin of 1.5 points over Brainerd -- won team titles.

The Cardinals had two relays and two individuals win events.

Sarah Erickson won the girls discus throwing the plate 113-3, three feet in front of the runner-up.

Mahad Hassan won the 3,200 run in a close finish. He finished in 9:36.20 with Drew Paradis of Alexandria just off his shoulder at 9:36.53.

Willmar won both the boys 4x800 (8:09.7) and the concluding 4x400 (3:32.10) relay.

Jordan Shalmo was second in a photo finish in the 110 high hurdles, both in a hand-held time of 15.1. Andrew Nicklawsky was third in the 1,600 run in a time of 4:40.8.

The boys highest finish in a field event was Jackson Roberts in the discus (126-7). He was fourth.

In girls field events, Brooke Feichtinger placed third in pole vault (9-2). On the track, Brianna Fernholz placed second in the 200 dash (25.87) and Jayne Cole was fourth in the 3,200 run (11:55.71).
