BENSON -- Two teenagers are dead and one seriously hurt after a two-vehicle crash around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday about three miles southeast of Benson.

According to John Holtz, chief deputy of the Swift County Sheriff's office, the teens were in a sedan traveling northbound on 30th Avenue Southeast. The vehicle apparently struck the side of a semi trailer that was westbound on 40th Street Southeast (also County Road 14). The location is in Section 21 of Torning Township.

The teens were transported by ambulance to Swift County-Benson Hospital. The 17-year-old boy was later airlifted to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale. Despite lifesaving efforts, the 15- and 16-year-old males were later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The 33-year-old male driving the semi tractor-trailer received minor injuries, was treated and released.

More information will be released as the investigation continues, according to Holtz. Names will be released when next of kin have been notified. The Minnesota State Patrol is assisting the Swift County Sheriff's Office in the reconstruction of the crash.
