HANLEY FALLS -- A family of 11 people has been displaced by a house fire west of Hanley Falls.
According to Yellow Medicine County Sheriff Bill Flaten, a 911 call was received around 2:39 a.m. today from the Chai Vue and Shoua Kong residence. Kong reported that everyone was out of the home and was safe. The family includes the parents, a grandmother and eight children from 11 months to 14 years old.
The Hanley Falls Fire and Rescue squads arrived to find the home engulfed in flames and requested assistance from the Clarkfield, Wood Lake and Cottonwood fire departments. The Cottonwood Ambulance also responded. The house was a total loss. Nothing suspicious was found regarding the cause of the fire, and there was no insurance on the house.
Flaten asks those wishing to assist the family to direct their efforts to the American Red Cross, which is helping with the immediate needs.
In his news release Flaten says that the financial need is the greatest. For now, they are requesting any donations be in the form of a check or money order to the Marshall chapter of the Red Cross. The address is 301 2nd Street S., Marshall, MN 56258. Make a notation on the check or money order that you would like it to go to the Hanley Falls fire victims.
