ALEXANDRIA, Minn. - A crash between two semi trailers east of Alexandria early Monday morning killed one of the drivers and closed down a portion of Interstate-94 for hours.
Authorities have now released the names of the drivers. The driver who died was Steven W. Moderow, 45, of Fargo, North Dakota. The second driver was Richard L. Novotny, 62, of Evansville. He suffered only minor injuries and was treated and released.
The crash happened in the swirling snow nine miles east of Alexandria at about 2:25 a.m., according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
The State Patrol said a truck driven by Moderow carrying U.S. mail was driving east when it rolled just before 2:30 a.m., blocking both eastbound lanes between Alexandria and Osakis.
Novotny, also traveling east, struck Moderow's semi broadside, according to the State Patrol.
