GROVE CITY -- Sen. Scott Newman, R-Hutchinson, has been reelected to the Minnesota Senate in District 18 and Rep. Dean Urdahl, R-Grove City, will return to the state House of Representatives in District 18A.
Unofficial returns showed that Newman had collected 22,060 votes while challenger Steven Schiroo, of Cokato, had received 16,003 votes. The tally includes 84 of the 85 precincts in the district.
District 18 includes all of Meeker, McLeod and Sibley counties, plus the City of Cokato and Cokato Township in Wright County.
Newman, 65, will return to St. Paul for a second term in the Senate. He previously served two terms in the state House of Representatives District 18A from 2004 to 2007. Schiroo, 26, was the DFL-endorsed candidate in the district.
Unofficial returns showed that Urdahl had received 11,241 votes while challenger Nancy Larson, of Dassel, had received 8,190 votes. The tally includes 36 of the 37 precincts in the district.

District 18A includes all of Meeker County plus the area west of State Highway 15 in the City of Hutchinson and Acoma, Hutchinson and Lynn townships in northwestern McLeod County and the city of Cokato and Cokato Township in Wright County.
Urdahl, 63, will return to St. Paul for his sixth term. Larson, 70, is a longtime Democrat and served as lobbyist for the Coalition for Greater Minnesota Cities for the past six years and as executive director of the Minnesota Association of Small Cities from 1988 to 2006.
