Update 8:45 p.m:
WILLMAR - Some schools are canceling classes today because of heavy snow that's fallen across the region.
As much as eight inches of new snow fell overnight in some areas and more accumulation is expected throughout the day, according to the National Weather Service.
Many areas schools are still delaying classes for two hours this morning but some districts, including the Willmar School District, New London-Spicer School District and Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City School District have canceled classes for today.
Meanwhile, crews are busy clearing roads.

Dave Fritz, maintenance engineer with the Kandiyohi County Public Works Department, said crews left the shop about 5 a.m. and will be working all day to clear county roads.
"We'll get everything opened up today and back at it again tomorrow," said Fritz.
He said crews weren't experiencing any major problems clearing roads at this point.
"As long as the wind doesn't blow we're doing just fine," he said.
Winds are predicted to gust 20-25 mph tomorrow, which could move around the light, fluffy snow and make travel conditions questionable. It could also mean the third weekend in a row where winter weather has hit the area forcing crews to put in long weekend hours, which will strain tight budgets for local government entities.
Update 6:30 a.m.
Many area schools are delaying the start of classes this morning because of a fresh batch of snow that fell over the region.

About 5-6 inches of snow fell over night in some parts of west central Minnesota.
Schools are starting two hours late in many local districts to give county and state crews a chance to clear roads.
The National Weather Service is predicting additional snow accumulation throughout the day.
