OLIVIA – Two people were killed  in a head-on crash at 10:37 a.m. Friday on U.S. Highway 71 in Renville County, the Minnesota State Patrol reported.

The State Patrol reports that Joe Patrick Trebesch, 50, of Kandiyohi, and Mark Andrew Tanhoff, 50, of Renville, died. Two others were injured. Dianna Lynn Johnson, 47, of Renville, suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to North Memorial Hospital. Kent Allan Schearer, 38, of Minneapolis, suffered non-life threatening injuries and was treated at the Renville County Hospital in Olivia. Both were passengers in the vehicle driven by Tanhoff.

According to information from the State Patrol, a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Trebesch was southbound on Highway 71. A 2010 Toyota Tundra driven by Tanhoff was northbound on the highway.

The Silverado crossed the center line and struck the Tundra head on, according to the state patrol report.

Trebesch, Tanhoff and Schearer were wearing seat belts, and Johnson was not, according to the accident report.

Reports from the Minnesota Department of Transportation and State Patrol indicate the collision occurred south of the intersection with Renville County Road 11 in Winfield Township.

Olivia Fire and Ambulance, Danube Fire and Rescue, Willmar Ambulance, Olivia Police and Renville County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene.
