The West Central Tribune recognizes that you - our readers - consume news differently today than in the past. So we are reviewing our print and digital products, always looking to improve with easier and richer reading experiences.
Monday’s changes in our print edition are another step in a continuing improvement process as our products evolve in this new digital age.
One change launching Monday is an update of our newspaper name, or flag as it is called in the industry. Our flag uses updated font choices and adds some darker blue color. An example of it is shown above.
The stories all week about our upcoming design update have actually been printed with our new fonts.
The new text font is from the Nimrod font family. It is an extremely versatile font that works well in smaller text sizes and is easier to read due a large x-height. A fairly new font, it has been chosen by many newspapers and book publishers in recent years.
Two type families - Photina and Air - have been selected for our headlines and other text needs. Photina is a font with a high typographic quality and refined detail, which has made it a popular choice for magazines, books and newspapers. Air is a clean and contemporary typeface, making it a popular font choice with magazines and newspapers.
