WILLMAR - Due to inclement weather, the closure of 22nd Street Southwest, between 19th Avenue and Willmar Avenue in Willmar, has been delayed until Monday, Oct. 29. The road will be closed for at least two weeks, as work continues on a stormwater project.

The work on the project is weather dependent. The city of Willmar hopes 22nd Street will reopen to through traffic Nov. 12. Until then, traffic will be detoured around the construction to Kandiyohi County Road 5, also known as 30th Street Southwest.

During the construction period of Oct. 29 to Nov. 12, drivers are asked to follow detour signs, expect delays and to find other routes if possible.

The Western Interceptor stormwater project includes the construction of a new, larger storm sewer line - starting from the retention pond at Baker Field and moving south and west, until it ties into the line along 30th Street Southwest. It will eventually tie into Hawk Creek. The upgrades will move water more efficiently through the area and help clear out standing water around Baker Field following major rain events.
