MONTEVIDEO -- Verna Anderson, 87, of Montevideo, died Thursday at Chippewa County-Montevideo Hospital.

The service will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church.

She was born Jan. 1, 1920, in Bogus Brook Township near Milaca, to Verner and Helga (Johnson) Norrgard. She graduated from Milaca High School and attended Immanuel Hospital School of Nursing in Omaha, Neb. She served as a cadet nurse during World War II. She married Ellsworth Anderson on Sept. 9, 1961, in Minneapolis. They lived in rural Montevideo. She worked for many years as a nurse and a nurse anesthetist. She was an active member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, where she had was a Sunday School teacher. She was also a quilter, active in Claudia Circle and was a past president of her church women's group.

She is survived by a brother: Ray Norrgard of Brainerd; a sister: Joyce Burkhalter of Natchitoches, La.; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband earlier this year.
