MAYNARD -- Vernon F. Haugen, 88, of Maynard died Friday at Granite Falls Hospital.
The service is at 11 a.m. today at Wang Lutheran Church in rural Maynard. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation is at the church today for one hour before the service. Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Home of Renville.

He was born Sept. 14, 1918, on the family farm in Wang Township to Ole and Christine (Hedin) Haugen. He attended District 141 country school and graduated from Maynard High School in 1937. He farmed for many years, first with his father and then on his own.
On Feb. 17, 1947, he married Alice Zaske in Renville. After her death in 1952 from polio, he married Hilda (Rusch) de Koning on June 6, 1965, in Minneapolis.
He was a lifelong member of Wang Lutheran Church, where he was active as a deacon, secretary of the congregation, a Sunday School teacher, a member of the choir and past president of the men's brotherhood.
He also sang frequently at nursing homes and for weddings and funerals. For many years he sang with a men's sextet and with the Maynard-Milan Men's Choir.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter: Verlyn (and Lynn) Aeikens of Maynard; a stepdaughter: Margaret Stolp of Atlanta; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister: Lily Fagen of Granite Falls; and many other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, a sister and a brother.
