Willmar
A Veterans Day observance will be held at 8 p.m. Friday at the Willmar War Memorial Auditorium in downtown Willmar. Capt. James Coulson, commander of the naval ROTC at the University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities, will be the guest speaker.
There will be a flag ceremony, music, short readings and an invocation by the Rev. Ken Haack of Willmar, a major in the Army Reserves.
A display of military items from the Civil War through present day will be on display at the auditorium from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today through Saturday. The display is part of the collections of Jonathan Lindstrand of Kandiyohi and Dale and Sharon Koenen of Clara City. The New Ulm Battery will have its original Civil War cannon on display.
Stan Olson, a counseling and readjustment specialist with the U.S. Veterans Affairs Department, will be on hand each day to help answer any questions about veterans' benefits, including prescription drug coverage.

A Veterans Day program will be held at 9 a.m. today at Benson Senior High School. Sgt. 1st Class Dennis L. Kohlman, an Appleton High School graduate, will be the speaker.
Olivia
The annual Veterans Day program will be held at 10:15 a.m. today at BOLD High School in Olivia.
The Rev. Paul van der Crommert, pastor at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Olivia, will be the speaker. Music will be furnished by the BOLD High School band and chorus. The public is invited.
Granite Falls
A Veterans Day program will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Yellow Medicine East High School. Jon Hovde, a Vietnam veteran, will be the speaker. The Veterans Day supper is at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Granite Falls American Legion.

Veterans employment seminar
GRANITE FALLS -- Maj. Gen. Larry A. Shellito, adjutant
general of the Minnesota National
Guard, will be the keynote speaker of a workshop on hiring veterans Dec. 8.
The workshop, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. at Prairie's Edge Casino Resort in Granite Falls, will consist of several sessions on employment of veterans, including tax breaks available for employers who hire a disabled vet, re-employment of veterans, and "Hire a Vet" programs in St. Cloud and Chicago.
