NEW ULM -- Post 1637 was outhit 13 to 11 at Johnson Park but employed seven walks and a half-dozen stolen bases to overcome the Duluth post.
Alec Saunders got the win with five innings of work in relief. Jordan R. Smith knocked in three runs with a triple and a single, and when Saunders faltered in the bottom of the seventh, he went to the hill to stifle the Duluth rally and earn the save.
Nine players hit safely for Willmar. Logan Birkland scored twice and stole three bases.
