City crews worked to remove a fallen tree Monday morning on the 100 block of Minnesota Avenue Southwest in Willmar. A major branch from a tree was blown down by high winds Monday morning and fell onto a parked car on the street. Much of west central Minnesota remains under a high wind warning until 6 p.m. Monday night.

Strong winds have developed this morning across west central Minnesota today behind a departing cold front.

 

A high wind warning is in effect for much of west central Minnesota, particularly along and west of a line from Alexandria to Kandiyohi to Olivia to Clements. This includes the counties of Douglas, Pope, Big Stone, Stevens, Swift, Kandiyohi, Chippewa, Lac Qui Parle, Chippewa, Yellow Medicine, Renville and Redwood.

 

These areas will experience sustained winds increasing to 35 to 45 mph, with wind busts to 55 to 65 mph through late afternoon.

The high winds have already created damage in Willmar, where a part of a tree blew down and landed on a parked car on the 100 block of Minnesota Avenue Southwest.

 

A wind advisory is in effect for areas east of the high wind warning area eastward to the western Wisconsin. This includes the counties of Todd, Stearns, Meeker, McLeod and Sibley.
