WILLMAR - A home was damaged as the result of a fire Friday afternoon in downtown Willmar.
Firefighters arrived on scene around 2:30 p.m. in the 400 block of Ninth Street Southwest and had to destroy part of the home’s ceiling to gain access to the blaze, Willmar Fire Chief Gary Hendrickson said.
The fire had been extinguished as of 3:30 p.m. Friday. While the roof was damaged as a result of the incident, the fire itself did not cause extensive damage to the home, Hendrickson said.
He said the homeowner had been doing plumbing and welding work in his bathroom, which likely caused the fire.
The Willmar Fire Department was assisted by Pennock, Kandiyohi and Spicer Fire Departments.
