RENVILLE -- Viola Elsie Zaske, 89, of Renville, died Friday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Renville. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Renville.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Renville and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
She was born June 17, 1916, in Flora Township, Renville County, to Nickolaus and Emilie (Brandt) Zimmer. She attended school at Districts 22 and 80 in Flora Township. She also worked on the family farm and did housework for relatives.

She married Paul Zaske on Sept. 29, 1939, in Redwood Falls. They farmed and later bought her parents farm in Flora Township. She worked as a clerk for Halliday's Grocery and Tersteeg's Market in Olivia. Paul died in 1981. She moved into Renville in 1989.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, the ladies aid and the OWLS organization. She taught Sunday school for many years.
She is survived by her daughters: Shirleeann (and Richard) Randall of Angola, Ind., Kathryn Smiley of Crawford, Colo., Margene Compton (and Vern Kleve) of McGregor, Norma Zaske of San Diego, Calif.; five grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son-in-law: Lawrence Compton; one brother and two sisters.
