SACRED HEART -- Viola J. Skalbeck, 95, of Sacred Heart died Sunday at Renville County Hospital in Olivia.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Sacred Heart. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the church in Sacred Heart, with a prayer service and time of sharing at 6 p.m., and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Sacred Heart.
She was born Dec. 30, 1910, in Sacred Heart Township, Renville County, to Martin and Lena (Johnson) Strandjord. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1928, and from teachers training in Renville in 1929. She taught in rural schools for several years.

She married Odean Skalbeck on March 14, 1935. They farmed south of Sacred Heart for many years.
She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and active in WELCA and Bible study groups. She was also a member of the Merry Circle Club for many years.
She is survived by her children: Pat (and Bob) Wharton of Mounds View, Dianne (and Fredric) Thunhorst of Ely, Brian (and Dee) Skalbeck of Mound; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one sister and two brothers.
