PAYNESVILLE -- Virgil DeLloyd Olson, 82, of Paynesville died Monday at the VA Hospital in Minneapolis.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eden Valley. Burial will be at the Eden Lake Cemetery after the service.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Johnson Funeral Home in Paynesville and for one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.

He was born June 18, 1925, in the Danielson Township, Meeker County, to Lawrence and Agnes (Anderson) Olson. He grew up on a farm, where he attended country school for his primary education. He graduated from Litchfield High School. He served in the U.S. Army where he participated Pacific Campaign during World War II.

He married Mary Hanson on Feb. 14, 1947, in Glencoe. They farmed near Cosmos for 11 years. Then he worked at Barton Contracting, where he drove truck for road construction projects. They moved to Paynesville in 1964. He retired in 1987.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eden Valley. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 2818 in Litchfield and a member of American Legion Post 612 in Lake Henry.

He is survived by his wife; children: David (and Diane) of Alexandria and Bradley (and Linda) of St. Michael; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his daughter: Sue Ann Olson; and a sister.
