Volleyball: BBE cruises in first round

BROOTEN -- Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa made quick work of Holdingford in their quarterfinal match of the Section 6AA-17 volleyball tournament Friday.

The Jaguars, the subsection's No. 1 seed, won the match 25-13, 25-17, 25-10.

BBE will face Albany, which beat New London-Spicer 3-1, at 8 p.m. Tuesday in Paynesville.

Heidi Lensing was perfect in attacks, converting 17-of-17 attempts into 11 kills. April Hansen added nine and served a team-high seven aces. Sarah Gruber recorded 14 assists and Emily Roelike had 16 digs.

Redwood Valley (15-13) will meet top-seeded Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop in the sub-section semifinals after slipping past Yellow Medicine East (11-12-1).

Jordan Olerud powered the Cardinals' attack with 15 kills, with Christal Greenslit adding 11 and Taylor Solie, who served a match-high eight aces, had nine. Naomi U'Ren had 29 assists and Greenslit had 13 digs.

Anne Jepson and Macy McKay both had nine kills, and Livi Jeseritz and Jamie Baker followed with eight apiece to ignite the Sting. Jepson also piled up five ace serves while Sarah Cross amassed 35 assists.

BOLD took the first game 25-19, but Renville County West took command after that to advance to the sub-section semifinals against No. 2 Springfield Tuesday.

Kelly Hannah had a big night serving, launching 25 attempts without a miss with five going for aces.

Megan Groen got it done at the net, logging 18 kills with only four errors in 41 attacks. Kortney Mulder supplied 11 kills and and five ace blocks and Liz Elllingson chipped in with 12 digs and five kills.
