BRAINERD -- Rainy River took a 14-point lead at halftime and went on to defeat the Ridgewater Warriors 82-67 in men's MCCC basketball on Friday.
The Warriors take on Central Lakes of Brainerd at 6 p.m. today.
Ridgewater had an 83-71 win on its record over the Voyageurs on Dec. 2 in Willmar. This time Rainy River deployed its advantage in quickness to build as much as a 28-point lead early in the second half.
The Warriors' leading scorer, Dave Johnson, was limited to 10 points after scoring 27 at Willmar. The 6-5 sophomore did collect 18 rebounds. Micah Oates-Jenkins and Geoff Nelson each added nine points, Nelson all on 3-pointers.
"They (Rainy River) shot better this time and our defense on the transition game was weak," said Ridgewater coach Bob Knutson. "We did make a nice run in the second half to cut the lead to eight at one point."
