WACONIA -- Willmar's volleyball season ended Thursday as Waconia swept the Cardinals 25-17, 25-13, 25-18 in the Section 2AAA playoffs.
"Waconia had a little too much height for us," said Willmar coach Mary Hanson. "They really blocked well. I thought our girls played well. There was never a time that I thought they cashed it in."
Willmar (10-17), seeded No. 13, managed just a .162 kill percentage against the No. 4-seeded Wildcats, who improved to 19-8.
"I thought Willmar really served well and had us on our heels for a while," said Waconia coach Jim Lee. "I think the key for us was that we were able to sustain our energy level throughout the match. That hasn't always been the case for us this year."
Senior Katie Larkin and sophomore Kara Pioske had eight kills apiece to lead Waconia, which will meet either Buffalo or Mankato West in the next round on Saturday.
Greta King had eight kills for Willmar. Annalise Bratt had four kills and two ace serves. Megan Brown led in digs with 11.
