KIMBALL -- A 42-year-old Waite Park man escaped through the driver side window of his pickup, which broke through the ice Friday on Pearl Lake in Stearns County.

According to the Stearns County Sheriff's Office, Bryan Spychala was driving a 2004 1-ton Chevy on a previously plowed road on the lake when the front end of the truck broke through the ice and water began entering the cab area. The incident was reported around 6 p.m. Friday.

The weak spot in the ice where the truck went through may have been caused by an ice house that was moved.

The sheriff's office reminds that spring time is coming, the ice is thinning and urges people to use caution and common sense when going on the ice.
