NICOLLET -- Wallace Robert "Wally" Hansen, 74, of Nicollet, formerly of New London, died Wednesday at the Benedictine Living Community in St. Peter.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet. Burial will be in the church cemetery with full military honors by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Nicollet and one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.

He was born Jan. 4, 1934, in Nicollet to Andrew and Mary (Ellingson) Hansen. He graduated from Nicollet High School in 1952 and served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958.

He married Marlene Fennern on March 5, 1960, in Nicollet. He worked for the Nicollet Creamery for 11 years. They moved in 1963 to New Ulm where he worked for Kraft Foods for one year and then at Minnesota Valley Testing Labs for 32 years. He retired in 1996, and they moved to New London for the summers and wintered in Weslaco, Texas. He moved to Nicollet in 2007.

He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet and the Seifert-Bianchi American Legion Post 132 in New Ulm.

He is survived by a daughter: Karen (and Kurt) Odegard of New Ulm; sons: Robert (and Cindy) Hansen of LeSueur and Ron (and Joy) Hansen of Nicollet; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sisters: Myrtle Bode of North Mankato and Alice Chambers of Tacoma, Wash.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 2001 and one sister.
