MORRIS -- Walter Lyle Sperr, 80, of Morris died Tuesday at Courage Cottage in Morris, after a short battle with cancer.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church in Morris. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Herman.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

He was born Aug. 14, 1926, near Moose Island to John and Lena (Wille) Sperr. He attended school district 63 and continued at district 69, after the family moved. He completed eighth grade and helped on the family farm. He worked for area farmers and also did custom corn picking.

He married Carol Polzen on Oct. 29, 1955, in Winfred, S.D. They lived and farmed in the Morris area. He later worked as a sanitary engineer at the Stevens County Courthouse and First Lutheran Church. He retired and they wintered in Yuma, Ariz., for seven years.

He is survived by his wife; children: Rodney (and Trish) Sperr of Aurora, Colo., Renelda (and Alan) Mitchell of Port Neches, Texas, Rita (and David) Johnson of Brainerd, Roxane (and Doug) Junkin of Fargo, N.D., Royden (and Dawn) Sperr of Rogers; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and 10 siblings: Marjorie Armstrong of Morris, Fred (and Christine) Sperr of Chokio, John (and Pat) Sperr of Hastings, Mae Anderson of Donnelly, Edward (and Angie) Sperr of Cache, Okla., Elizabeth Ascheman of Morris, Arland (and Viola) Sperr of Cokato, Leland (and Karen) Sperr of Wheaton, Gayle (and Gene) Kalstrom of Great Falls, Mont., and Gloria (and Leo) Stein of Morris.

He was preceded in death by one brother.
