Walz, Johnson to participate in rural issues debate in Willmar

WILLMAR - A gubernatorial debate focused on rural issues is scheduled for Tuesday evening in Willmar.

The Greater Minnesota Debate between Republican Jeff Johnson, a Hennepin County commissioner, and U.S. Rep. Tim Walz, D-Minn., will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the MinnWest Technology Campus, 1700 Technology Drive N.E., Willmar.

The debate will be broadcast live on WCCO Radio.

The debate is expected to address rural issues, like agriculture practices, tax policy, water, regulation relief and workforce shortages.

The debate is presented by Agrigrowth and the Minnesota Corn Growers, with support from Minnesota's Credit Unions and AARP Minnesota.

In 42 years in the newspaper industry, Linda Vanderwerf has worked at several daily newspapers in Minnesota, including the Mesabi Daily News, now called the Mesabi Tribune in Virginia. Previously, she worked for the Las Cruces Sun-News in New Mexico and the Rapid City Journal in the Black Hills of South Dakota. She has been a reporter at the West Central Tribune for nearly 27 years.
