WILLMAR -- A couple sizable donations in recent days have put the Warm the Children campaign over the top for 2009.

Goal of the 2009 campaign was $38,000, and recent donations have topped $39,700.

The "very successful" 2009 campaign helped to provide warm winter clothing for an estimated 550 children throughout the area, according to program organizers. Over the past 16 years the Warm the Children campaign has helped some 5,948 children from an estimated 2,198 families.

All donations received -- 100 percent -- go to help the children. The program is administered through the West Central Tribune, with assistance from area social service agencies and schools making referrals. The families are then taken shopping in order to purchase warm winter clothing for the children. Each child is allowed an estimated $80 in purchases.

A total of 485 donations have been received during the 2009 campaign. To date, donations total $39,714.31.
