Warriors post perfect record over weekend

WILLMAR -- Ridgewater scored nine-or-more runs in all four of its games to post a perfect record at the MCCC Cross-Over tournament in Willmar Saturday and Sunday.

WILLMAR -- Ridgewater scored nine-or-more runs in all four of its games to post a perfect record at the MCCC Cross-Over tournament in Willmar Saturday and Sunday.

The Warriors opened the home season at Baker Field Saturday with a 10-3 win over Vermilion and an 11-2 win over MSCTC-Fergus Falls. On Sunday, Ridgewater destroyed St. Cloud Technical College 18-3 and edged Fergus 9-7.

The Warriors also averaged 11 hits for the weekend.

"Offensively, we started to play a lot better," said Ridgewater coach Dwight Kotila. "We're just starting to play a little better baseball."

The teams combined for four home runs with the wind blowing out to left.

Fergus Falls jumped on Ridgewater starter Zach Etter, hitting two solo home runs. But the Warriors responded with five runs in the bottom of the first. Jacolby Anderson hit a two-run homer.

Steve Boldt launched a two-run shot in the fifth. He led the team with two hits, including a double, three runs scored and four RBI.

Etter earned the win, pitching five innings. He struck out four and walked four. Chris Butala threw the last two innings for the save.

Steve Wetterling smacked a grand slam in the seventh, part of a nine-run frame for the Warriors. Wetterling led the Warriors with three hits, two doubles and six RBI. Zac McCann hit a two-run homer in the sixth and had two hits overall. Drew Thompson, Scott Rambow and Steve Boldt also had two hit each.

Ryan Krause pitched the first six innings for the win. He gave up three runs on eight hits, striking out seven and walking one.

Zac McCann hit a solo homer in the third inning and was one of six players to have two-or-more hits for the Warriors.

Scott Rambow led the team at the plate with a 3-for-3 performance.

Alex Stein struck out 10 and walked one in six innings for the win.

After a slow start, the Warriors turned up the heat with four runs in the fourth, three in the sixth and four in the seventh.

Eric Dahl led the way with two hits, including a double.

Ethan Vogt went the distance, allowing two runs on seven hits. He struck out three and didn't walk a batter.
