Waska sinks Benson; gains 6AA-West final

MORRIS -- Emily Roering reached the 20-point plateau for the second straight game for Minnewaska as the Lakers advanced to the Section 6AA-West final by upending Benson 46-32 Thursday at the University of Minnesota-Morris.

Top-seeded Minnewaska (20-6) will meet No. 2 seed West Central Area (20-6) in the sub-section final Saturday at 6 p.m. at St. John's University.

Roering finished with 20 points after opening the playoffs with a 24-point performance against Long Prairie-Grey Eagle. Erika Olson followed with 14 points while Cassie Jacobs pulled down 12 rebounds and helped hold Benson's leading scorer, Abby Fragodt, to just four points.

Sarah Ahrndt paced a balanced attack for Benson (14-12) with 13 points. Fragodt added 10 rebounds and four steals.
