GRAND FORKS, N.D. - The National Weather Service is predicting a Red River crest in Grand Forks at between 47 and 49 feet, between Monday and Wednesday.

City officials on Thursday were preparing to close two of the three bridges connecting the city with neighboring East Grand Forks, Minn.

Grand Forks is protected by a $400 million dike system build after the record flood of 1997, when the river crested at 54.35 feet. But the approaches to the two bridges are expected to be impassable.

The Greenway along the river was closed to the public earlier this week.
