WILLMAR -- A storm building off the west coast is expected to gain strength today and tomorrow before lacing Minnesota with a fresh layer of winter white.

Between 3 and 6 inches of snow is expected to fall around the Willmar area, with as much as a foot falling closer to the Twin Cities, said National Weather Service Meteorologist Mike Bardou.

The wintery mix is expected to begin after midnight Thursday and extend through Sunday.

Bardou said heavy precipitation is expected early Saturday morning and again overnight Saturday.

Winds between 10 and 20 mph may also make road travel difficult.
