WILLMAR – As another round of snow and gusty winds moves into west central Minnesota this morning, most area schools districts have announced they will be closed today, including schools in Willmar.
Other district that have posted information on their websites indicating they are closed today include New London-Spicer, Brooten-Belgrade-Elrosa, Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg, Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City, Cosmos Learning Center, Benson, BOLD, Lac qui Parle Valley, Montevideo, Yellow Medicine East, MACCRAY, Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart, Dawson-Boyd.
Other schools in the area may also be closed and church events and some public services may be limited today because of the weather.
Parts of the state, including Big Stone, Chippewa, Lac qui Parle, Redwood, Renville, Swift, Stevens and Yellow Medicine counties, are under a blizzard warning with 3-5 inches of new snow predicted for today along winds gusting to 40 mph creating dangerously cold wind chills, according to the National Weather Service.
A wind chill warning has been issued for tonight through Friday morning for locations along and west of a line from Redwood Falls, to Litchfield, to Little Falls, according to the National Weather Service.
A winter weather advisory and a wind chill advisory have been issued for the rest of central and southern Minnesota.
Roads in the region are currently covered, or partially covered with snow, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
As winds start to pick up, conditions are expected to deteriorate with reduced visibility.
