The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Friday and Saturday in western Minnesota. The Willmar area is expected to see a high temperature today of 92 with a heat indice of 102 when the humidity is factored.
Winds will be picking up through the day, and winds of 10 to 15 miles per hour with gusts up to 25 miles per hour are forecast for Friday afternoon in the region.
There’s a 30 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms on Friday night.
The heat continues on Saturday, with an expected high of 88 in Willmar with a heat indice of 98. The chance of thunderstorms increases on Saturday. There’s a 60 percent chance of a quarter- to one-half inch- of precipitation during the day Saturday, with an 80 percent probability for thunderstorms and rain during the night time hours.
An approaching cool front will bring some relief Sunday, with a high temperature of 84 expected. The week ahead will see more moderate temperatures, according to the Weather Service.
