Wesley J. Matson

MINNEAPOLIS -- Wesley Matson, 83, of Minneapolis died Sunday in Minneapolis.
A graveside service was held Wednesday in Svea.
He was born June 25, 1924, in Svea to James and Ettie Matson. He graduated from Willmar High School in 1942. He served in the United States Army in France and Germany during World War II. He graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1948. He received his master's degree from the University of California at Berkeley and his Ph.D. from Columbia University in New York City.

He taught at Santa Maria, Calif., the University of Maryland and the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee. He served as dean of the Department of Education at Winona State University in Winona. He retired in 1984, and he and his family moved to Richfield.
He was a member of the American Swedish Institute of Minneapolis and the Minnesota Historical Society in St. Paul.
He is survived by his wife: Doris Matson of Richfield; and his brother: John (and Marion) Winton of Bloomington.
He was preceded in death by his son: James; three brothers, one in infancy; and one sister.
