For the second straight year, New London-Spicer senior third baseman Wade Wessling has tied a state high school baseball record with three doubles in a game.
According to records kept by the Minnesota State Baseball Coaches Association, Wessling is one of 26 players to accomplish the feat. No one has ever hit four doubles in a game, according to the records.
Wessling went 3-for-4 in New London-Spicer's 11-1 win over Albany in a West Central North Conference game Monday in New London.
Wessling doubled hard down the left-field line in the first ining, doubled to the gap in right-center in the second inning and then belted a double to the base of the fence in left field in the third inning.
"He hits the ball hard," said his father/coach Doug Wessling. "He's not a home run hitter, but he has power to the gaps."

Wessling accomplished the feat the first time in last season's sub-section semifinal win over Maple Lake. He went 4-for-4 in that game with four RBI.
