WILLMAR - West Central Minnesota appears to have a strong vaccination record among its public school kindergarteners.
In information compiled by the St. Paul Pioneer Press reporter David Montgomery, the percentage of children who have not been vaccinated is very low in this area. The newspaper counted children whose parents did not vaccinate them for reasons of conscience.
These districts have all kindergarteners vaccinated: Dawson-Boyd, Hancock, Renville County West.
While the percentages vary because of the size of the kindergarten class, these districts reported that just one or two kindergarten students were not vaccinated: Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City, Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa, Benson, BOLD, Buffalo Lake-Hector, Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg, Lac qui Parle Valley, Litchfield, MACCRAY, Minnewaska, Montevideo, New London-Spicer, Paynesville, Prinsburg, Redwood Falls Area and Yellow Medicine East.
The highest number of non-vaccinated students was four kindergarteners in Willmar, which has a kindergarten class more than three times the size of any other area district. The percentage was 1.25 percent of the district’s 320 kindergarten students.
