WILLMAR -- Chelsey Wierschem netted four goals and Taylor Sandberg collected five points as Willmar breezed past Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Wadena-Deer Creek 8-1 in a non-conference girls hockey game Tuesday.
The Cardinals (2-0-0) scored the game's first eight goals before Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Wadena-Deer Creek scored with just under four minutes left in the game.
Amanda Croonquist turned backed 17 shots as Willmar outshot the visitors 34-18.
The Cardinals broke the game open by netting four goals in the third period after scoring two goals in each of the first two periods.
Sisters Sarah and Kylee Hulscher also contributed to the scoring attack with Sarah netting the game's first goal and Kylee capping the scoring for Willmar.

Sandberg netted the Cardinals' seventh goal of the contest and assisted on all four of Wierschem's goals.
Ashley Hutton added a goal and two assists for Willmar. Alexandria Sing, Erin Sheehan and Rebecca Freese each had an assist for Willmar.
Willmar is at Hutchinson next Tuesday night in another non-conference game.
