The Minnesota Wild signed free agent center Wyatt Smith to a one-year contract on Wednesday.
The 29-year-old Smith has played in 125 games over parts of six NHL seasons with the Phoenix Coyotes, the Nashville Predators and the New York Islanders.
He's a native of Thief River Falls who played for Warroad High School before a career at the University of Minnesota and a sixth-round selection by Phoenix in the 1997 draft. Last season, Smith had eight assists in 42 games for the Islanders.
