SEASON OUTLOOK
With 11 of the 17 letterwinners back in the top two classes, this should be the peak season for this batch of swimmers. Though it will be hard to replace MVP Matt Fuglestad, the team's most versatile swimmer, five other state qualifiers return. Willmar took third in both the 200- and 400-freestyle relays at the state meet. Jackson Roberts, Andrew Nicklawsky and Andy Johnson return from those two relays. In the open 50 free, Roberts nailed personal best 22.54 to place ninth, the highest individual finish. Steve Kluver will be an important contributor if he stays healthy. He missed about six weeks with a back injury last winter.
FROM THE COACH
Coach Carl Shuldes comments: "We open up at home against Montevideo, not there, as some printed schedules incorrectly indicated. We travel to Brainerd on Thursday. They have everyone back, so they and Fergus Falls will again be favored. We have a couple of eighth-grade divers who went to diving camp and just keep getting better. They'll have to compete at the varsity level for us again this year.
