ALEXANDRIA -- The battle for second place in the Central Lakes Conference went to Alexandria, which hung a 4-3 loss on visiting Willmar in near-freezing temperatures Thursday.

ALEXANDRIA -- The battle for second place in the Central Lakes Conference went to Alexandria, which hung a 4-3 loss on visiting Willmar in near-freezing temperatures Thursday.

Ann Bergtrand got the winning point at 2-singles with a tight 7-6, 7-5 win over Willmar's Amanda Bredeson.

Alexandria finished the CLC 7-2, while Willmar ended 5-3.

Willmar got their points from Andrea Brown at No. 1 singles, Leslie Marcus-Allie Ellingson at 1-doubles and Haylee Thompson-Emily Kack at 3-doubles.

Willmar finished the regular season with a 6-7 record and starts Sub-Section 8AA-South playoffs today by hosting St. Cloud Apollo at 4 p.m.

The winner advances to Monday's semifinal round against the Becker/Little Falls winner at 11 a.m. at Gold's Gym in St. Cloud.
