WILLMAR -- The Willmar Cardinals kept pace with the leaders in the Central Lakes Conference with a 5-1 win over Fergus Falls on Thursday in girls softball.
Willmar (7-1, 9-5) used a batter's wind to hammer out 10 hits; two each by Chelsey Wierschem and Heather Horning.
Hanna Pederson quieted the Otters on four hits. The senior hurler walked two and fanned seven.
Willmar opened with a three-run first on consecutive singles by Haylee Hastad, Sara Kallhoff, Wierschem and Horning. Megan Rudie's sacrifice fly brought in the third run for the Cardinals.
Rudie later doubled in a run as Willmar added two insurance runs in the fifth.

Fergus (5-4, 6-6) got its run in the top of the fifth when Hannah Ross singled in a run.
The game was moved to the college field because of wet conditions at the high school field.
Starting the day Brainerd led the CLC at 8-0 and Rocori and Willmar were each 6-1.
