WILLMAR -- Jesse Andrew Borjas, 26, of Willmar, was arraigned Wednesday on a felony charge of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon for allegedly swinging a knife at a woman Monday evening.

Borjas also faces misdemeanor charges for domestic assault and damage to property in Kandiyohi County District Court. Judge Donald M. Spilseth ordered that a mental health evaluation of Borjas be completed. No future court dates were set.

Unconditional bail was set at $15,000.

According to the complaint, a Willmar police officer was called to an apartment on the city's southwest side around 12:10 a.m. Tuesday on a domestic. The officer met a man, who said he was an ex-boyfriend of the woman involved in the incident.

The man said that the woman asked him to come to the residence after Borjas had caused an earlier disturbance. The man also told police that Borjas had returned to the home with an aluminum baseball bat and had hit a door and smashed a window with the weapon.

The woman told officers that Borjas entered the home around 11 p.m. and that they started to argue. She also alleged that he swung a knife at her after holding the weapon to his wrist. She said he returned just after midnight, pounded on the door with a bat and smashed a window.

Borjas was arrested around 7:30 p.m. that evening and was interviewed by police. He said he and the woman were dating and admitted to being at the woman's home, but denied the altercation. He admitted to returning to the home and smashing the window, but then stated that the woman hit him and that he wanted to press charges against her.

A search of his person revealed two knives in his pockets.
