LITCHFIELD -- Brandon Alvin Mead, 22, of Willmar, was arraigned Tuesday in Meeker County District Court on three felony charges stemming from a Nov. 15 shooting in Litchfield.

According to Stephanie Beckman, county attorney, Mead's unconditional bail was set at $50,000 or at his personal recognizance under the conditions that he not use or possess alcohol or drugs, that he submit to random testing and a baseline drug test, and that he not leave the state without written approval.

Mead is charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, reckless discharge of a firearm and failure to render aid to the shooting victim by the shooter. The charges stem from an early morning incident in which Litchfield police officers and Meeker County sheriff's deputies were dispatched around 2:15 a.m. Nov. 15 to a home along the 700 block of East First Street to what was believed to be an accidental shooting.

The victim was a woman, 33-year-old Adriana Galaz, who was transported by ambulance to the Meeker County Memorial Hospital and was later airlifted to St. Cloud Hospital. She was struck by a bullet that traveled through an interior wall of the home.

Kandiyohi County District Court records show that Mead was convicted of a 2003 liability for crimes of another - theft charge in January 2006 and ordered to serve one year and one day in prison, with credit for 186 days already served, plus pay a $500 fine and $1,725 in restitution. That conviction came after Mead had numerous probation violations. He originally had adjudication withheld on that charge in June 2004. Had he met the conditions set by the court, the conviction would have not appeared on his record. The prison time was concurrent on another felony conviction for fifth-degree controlled substance, with which Mead was charged in October 2005.
