Four area high school football teams were honored as Academic All-State by having the highest composite grade-point-average in their respective sections.
Willmar (3.48) was the Section 2AAAA winner, New London-Spicer (3.54) won in 3AAA, Benson (3.42) in 6AA and Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg (3.32 in 5A.
Individually, Justin Schwieger of Willmar in Class AAAA, Kent Johnson of Litchfield and Joe Shearer of NLS in Class AAA, Daniel Fragodt of Benson and Kyle Gaffaney of Yellow Medicine East in Class AA and Sam Kavanagh of KMS in Class A were Academic All-State.
