Willmar PD citing drivers illegally turning south at 7th and Litchfield

WILLMAR - Officers with the Willmar Police Department have written numerous citations and issued warnings to drivers who have gone around barricades at the intersection of Seventh Street and Litchfield Avenue/U.S. Highway 12.
Drivers are able to pass through the intersection both ways on Highway 12 and to drive north on Seventh Street, said Willmar Police Chief Jim Felt on Friday. However, drivers are not allowed to drive south on Seventh Street from that intersection.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation is developing a turn lane at the southwest corner of that intersection, and the southbound lane of Seventh Street is closed.
People who need to drive south can turn onto Eighth Street a block west of the intersection or turn into downtown Willmar a few blocks east, Felt said.
He reminded drivers that a new state laws doubles fines for traffic violations in highway work zones.
