Willmar Police apprehend 17-year-old who fled with stolen vehicle

WILLMAR - A 17-year-old boy faces possible felony charges for motor vehicle theft and fleeing police in a motor vehicle after being apprehended by Willmar Police officers Thursday night.

WILLMAR - A 17-year-old boy faces possible felony charges for motor vehicle theft and fleeing police in a motor vehicle after being apprehended by Willmar Police officers Thursday night.

The Willmar Police Department reported today that it received a report that a vehicle had been stolen from the Gurley’s Food  parking along U.S. Highway 12 East around 10:32 p.m. on Thursday.

Shortly after, a gang enforcement officer with the Willmar Police Department spotted the stolen vehicle being driven in the downtown area. It was being operated without its lights on.

The officer attempted to stop the vehicle and suspect, but he fled with the vehicle. After a short pursuit, the suspect stopped the vehicle and fled on foot. Police officers assisted by Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s deputies apprehended him.

Felony charges of motor vehicle theft and fleeing an officer in a vehicle are pending, as are possible misdemeanor charges for possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
